The Naval Base Secondary School’s yearbook series (2022 to 2024) was developed as a clean, structured visual system that reflects direction, growth, and identity. Each edition balances bold typography and strong school colours with angular, naval vessel-inspired blocks that frame photographs and content dynamically. Subtle geometric linework runs throughout the layouts, reinforcing themes of navigation and shared journeys.

Over four years, Octopus Ink has been appointed to conceptualise and design the yearbooks for Holy Innocents’ High School — shaping them as more than typical yearbook publications, but as visual testimonies of calling, community and faith.
2022–2024: “Called to Life, Called to Love”
The first three years were anchored in the school’s theme, expressed through evolving graphic interpretations of calling. In 2022, the design explored illustrated narratives and student voices — a tapestry of lives responding to God’s call in distinct ways.
In 2023, the concept shifted to constellations and connected nodes — a visual metaphor for individuals uniquely created, yet meaningfully linked in Christ. Clean lines and structured grids reflected clarity of purpose and unity in diversity.
In 2024, the theme matured into branching pathways — vibrant lines growing from a single source (a mustard seed), symbolising lives rooted in faith and reaching outward in love. The system became bolder and more distilled, reflecting a community growing in confidence and conviction.
2025: “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”
This year marks a new chapter. The visual language centres on radiant light — a sunburst breaking through gradient skies — capturing the steadfast, renewing mercy of God. The warmth of colour and expansive rays speak of hope, gratitude and assurance: His faithfulness endures through every season of school life.
Each year, the visual identity extends beyond the yearbook to the staff diary and student handbook, ensuring a cohesive design language across platforms. Together, these publications form a unified expression of the school’s ethos — rooted in Christ, growing in love, and carried by faithfulness from year to year.

For Hwa Chong International School’s Founders’ Day 2025, the visual identity was developed as a contemporary interpretation of tradition — honouring heritage through a restrained, modern lens.
Dynamic brushstroke textures replace full calligraphy, referencing the spirit of Chinese ink painting. These strokes act as subtle framing elements across the booklet, stage backdrop and presentation slides, conveying movement, energy and continuity. Their flame-like forms also subtly reference the Hwa Chong emblem, reinterpreting the school’s identity through expressive, modern brushwork.
The wider visual language draws from Chinese watercolour techniques, using softness, layering and negative space to create depth and quiet dignity. At the centre sits a digitally-rendered brushstroke motif — a modern take on calligraphy that retains the spontaneity of ink while presenting it through a refined, contemporary lens.
Typography anchors the system with clarity, balancing ceremonial presence with modern restraint.

"Connecting Communities" was more than just a festival; it's a vibrant celebration of Community Engagement and Service, which unfolded from September 18th to 28th, 2023.
At the heart of the visual design lies a simple, yet impactful key visual, spotlighting our logo type. Our design narrative extends beyond the logo, incorporating illustrations depicting community-driven activities, featuring individuals spanning generations and abilities. Zig-zag lines, serving as a recurring motif, infuse a sense of continuity, while cheery elements like the sun and abstract organic shapes add warmth and vitality. Anchored by a color palette in deep blue hues and accentuated by bursts of oranges, pinks, yellows, and teal, our design aims to show vibrancy and inclusivity.
The designs were used mostly in a variety of web applications. Web banners on websites, Instagram posts and templates and a physical pull-up banners were created.

We had the opportunity to support FARM in designing a brochure for an exhibition, Now Boarding. We adapted the exhibition identity designed by FARM unto a brochure design, which is given out at the exhibition to walk the viewer through the exhibits. It was designed to resemble a foldout map, similar to the print maps used when we travel to foreign lands (at least before the smartphone era). A boarding pass design, which accompanies the brochure, invites the viewer to access an interactive portal within the exhibition.
The exhibitions continues through 27 May 2023 - 25 Feb 2024.

This project involved designing a visual identity for a fundraising campaign for NUS Giving. The design brief given was to show that anyone could aid NUS students in growing and fulfilling their full potential. The student is very much a 'work-in-progress', and every contribution would help them in their education journey. The deliverables included print flyers, magazine ads, and digital banners.
The design features hand-drawn illustrations along with photographs of objects. The student is still in a sketchy state, with the tangible objects like laptop and mortarboard depicted as photographs. This reflects the idea of the student being a 'work-in-progress'.

"NUS Arts Festival 2021: A Question of Time pursues meaning and manner in the relationship between humans and Time. Given the unique nature of the times in which we are living, when a global pandemic has affected all areas of human activity, it is an opportune moment to reflect on how our concept of objective time and subjective or social time within this particular unprecedented season may lead to better understanding as to how our past and our present are connected to our future."
The NUS Arts Festival is an annual month-long event which showcases faculty and practising local and international artists alongside the best student performers. For 2021, the theme was 'A Question of Time'. We created the festival identity and designed the website, print, environment and digital graphics.
